Just keep doing the above and your renown, relation and (if you're refusing rewards for freeing villages and letting lords go) honour will keep increasing. This also helps with filling up a garrison for your castle/town. This is because you can get many more recruits from villages with which you have high relations, so it's then much easier to raise an army on short notice, especially if you have a few companions with decent trainer skill. If a lord gets captured, you can usually talk to their family members to get a quest to rescue them, which gives you more benefits to just going and rescuing - if you don't get the quest, rescuing them is still a good way to get in their good books.Īnother thing you should do (this is more general, but especially helps as a lord) is build up relations with villages. That gives you some easy relation points with a fairly influential lord (he'd have to be in order to become marshal). Be sure to answer the marshal's summons whenever that comes up, and do his quests. You can also follow them around and help them whenever they get into a fight (the more they're outnumbered the better, just remember not to pick a fight you can't win). The obvious path is to ask them for quests.

By this time you should have enterprises in most, if not all, cities, so just focus on making nice. Ultimately you want to build up relations with other lords. What I generally do is ignore that initial village, but that's probably not good strategy. I'm still debating whether or not I want to play Floris or A Clash of Kings. I'll admit, my desire to do this mostly came from reading A Song of Ice and Fire, where the vassals are almost as interesting as the kings. I've played as a fairly long term vassal a couple of times but not once was I given a single piece of land aside form the village they give you from the start that gets raided every other week. The only problem is that I don't really know how.

I want to befriend all of the other vassals in my respective kingdom, get the king on my side, get tons of lands and titles, and then stab everyone in the back and form my own kingdom. for the 30th time if I had to guess), this time actually playing as a proper vassal. I never advance my status, and typically stay loyal to my king for a few days before I decide to become my own king or retract my vows. Typically I end up getting vassalized, but I never really do anything with it. I've played Warband for a grand total of 175 hours according to Steam, yet it occurred to me that I've never really bothered to play as a long-term vassal.
